John Laing Partnership appointed lead contractor for next phase of ' Ramsden revival'

Broomleigh Housing Association has chosen John Laing Partnership as contractor partner for the next stage of "Ramsden's Revival" - the regeneration of the Ramsden Estate in Orpington.

The £5.4 million contract is for the second of six phases in the regeneration and investment programme for the Ramsden Estate, led jointly by Broomleigh and the London Borough of Bromley. The second phase is supported by a £2.67 million capital grant from the Government Office for London.

Under Phase 2 of the programme, 53 new affordable homes will be built on Tintagel Road and Quilter Gardens to meet a wide range of housing needs: 26 will be for rent to tenants nominated by Broomleigh and the London Borough of Bromley; 27 will be for sale to local first time buyers on a shared ownership basis. A mixture of apartments and houses, the new homes range in size from one to four bedrooms and include three homes for wheelchair users.

The design by PRP Architects arranges the new homes in traditional street patterns. The layout achieves a high level of security for residents and is seeking Secured by Design status from the Metropolitan Police. The homes themselves offer light accommodation with generous space standards, as well as modern high levels of insulation and energy efficiency.

Work on phase 2 started in January 2005, when archaeologists made a routine survey of the site. The 53 homes are due to be completed by February 2006.

Other companies employed on the project include engineers Glanville Consultants and employers agent Mace.

Ramsden's Revival has been developed by Broomleigh and the London Borough of Bromley to improve the quality of life, environment and facilities for the estate's residents, as well as reducing crime and the fear of crime.
