Broomleigh chosen for Lewisham transfer
Broomleigh, part of the Affinity Sutton Group, has been approved by Lewisham Council as the proposed landlord for the transfer of 134 homes in the borough.
The housing association, which owns and manages some 15,000 homes across London and the South East, will invest £5m in home and neighbourhood improvements over the next three years if tenants vote in favour of transfer next March (2008).
The homes comprise a mixture of general needs and sheltered accommodation and the transfer would represent the first for Affinity Sutton since the group was launched last October.
Neil McCall, chief executive of Broomleigh, said: “Broomleigh has a strong reputation as a local provider of high-quality homes and services.
“We are delighted to have been recommended by residents as the proposed landlord for transfer and look forward to working with council staff and tenants and leaseholders in the run-up to ballot.
“If tenants in Lewisham vote in favour of transfer, they will enjoy the benefits of being part of a leading local housing provider which in turn is part of one of the biggest homes groups in the country.”
The 134 council homes are located at Orchard Estate, Lewisham and Village Court, Blackheath. If transfer goes ahead, Broomleigh will embark on a three-year programme of major improvements to bring the homes up to the Decent Homes Standard by 2010.
