Broomleigh publish new disability equality scheme
The delivery of inclusive customer services and establishing effective resident involvement mechanisms form the key themes in the Broomleigh Housing Association disability equality scheme, which has been approved by our Board and can be viewed by clicking here. The scheme meets legislative requirements laid out in the Disability Discrimination Act 2005 to promote equality of opportunity, encourage participation by people with a disability and promote positive attitudes towards those with a disability.
Working closely with our parent company, the Affinity Sutton Group, Broomleigh have developed our scheme and action plan, following Group-wide guidance, which will help us achieve our commitments laid out in our equality and diversity policy. We will be monitoring our progress and delivery through our current diversity and equality group, along with feeding into the Group our progress and successes.
Residents have been central to the development of our scheme, with some disabled residents being contacted and then involved in assessing our key service areas, suggesting areas for improvement. We have fed a number of these issues into our action plan to deliver over the coming three years, focusing on monitoring and recording information, ensuring disabled residents can be involved effectively and ensuring our publications are available in a range of formats.
We will be working with our parent company, Affinity Sutton to ensure recruitment, training and development arrangements are fair and open to the needs of existing and potential disabled staff.
We look forward to the challenge of delivering against our action plan to provide improved services for our disabled customers.
