Good behaviour equals good rewards
A group of Orpington youngsters have been shown that acting responsibly can be fun.
Around 30 young people from the Cotmandene Crescent area of St Paul’s Cray took to the ice last week as part of a joint Broomleigh Housing Association and Apollo Group incentive to reward good behaviour.
The trip to Greenwich Ice Rink gave the youngsters an opportunity to sample the kind of fun activities in store for them, providing they keep out of trouble. The project sets out to prevent anti-social behaviour as well as improving tolerance and understanding.
Nicola Brown, Community Project Officer for Broomleigh said: “Major works are underway in the Cotmandene Crescent area which could be an attraction for bored youngsters. This initiative aims to lower the risk of graffiti and vandalism by engaging the children in other activities.
“We have asked them to agree to behave well and in return they will be rewarded with a fun activity. We are pleased with the response so far.”
The programme of major works, which is being carried out by The Apollo Group, includes kitchen and bathroom refurbishment, renewal of front and rear doors, external repairs and decorations, renewal of soffit & fascias, electrical upgrades, renewal of garden paths and fences plus a some PVCu window renewals.
Christine Lemmon, Community Liaision Officer for Apollo said: “Our approach is the each partnering relationship is unique. The key will always be to take time to understand the needs of the people involved.
“Consultation took place between all parties including the parents and children of St Paul’s Cray, who thought it was an excellent idea and appreciated the opportunity to interact with other members of their community and have some festive fun along the way.”
