Neighbourhood Wardens boost for Bromley streets
Two neighbourhood wardens have been appointed by Broomleigh to patrol a number of areas in an effort to deter nuisance and antisocial behaviour.
Mohamed Tejan-Kamara and Doraj Miah will be working initially in Biggin Hill, Mottingham, Bromley Common, St Hughs, South Penge Park, the Groves, Anerley Vale, Hackington Crescent, Ramsden, Tillingbourne Green and Cotmandene Crescent. The areas covered by the team comprise over 3000 homes.
The neighbourhood wardens will be working as part of Broomleigh’s Antisocial Behaviour Team and will be a very visible presence as they regularly walk Broomleigh estates, observing and reporting where necessary. They will have strong links with the Safer Neighbourhood police teams, Broomleigh housing officers, Bromley Council and other agencies to share information and be part of an all-round approach to reduce anti-social behaviour and identify environmental issues that could be a result of antisocial behaviour, such as graffiti and fly-tipping.
Both Mohamed and Doraj are experienced wardens and come with a wealth of prior knowledge and training which will benefit Broomleigh residents.
Broomleigh has responded to residents’ requests by providing the new service and worked closely with them in the development of the project. A panel of residents’ representatives decided how the scheme would work and had input into writing the job descriptions and the interviews. There is no charge to residents for the service.
Vicky Bonner, Assistant Director, Tenancy Services for Broomleigh said: The presence of the neighbourhood wardens will make residents feel safer and we envisage that they will become more and more involved with residents, for example taking part in clean-up days and residents’ road-shows.
They will also be working flexible shifts, including evenings and some weekends, to patrol areas where nuisance is a problem out of office hours.
Cllr. George Taylor, Executive Councillor for Public Protection and Safety and Chairman of the Safer Bromley Partnership said: "We welcome this initiative by Broomleigh to help tackle nuisance and antisocial behaviour in the streets around their homes."
