The Writing's on the Wall at Ramsden
Broomleigh Housing Association has been working to spread positive messages through art on the Ramsden estate.
Project officers have been working in partnership with street artists from ‘Positive Arts’ to involve young people aged 8-18 in the regeneration of Ramsden estate. The project aims to encourage younger residents to feel part of the “Ramsden Revival” and allows them to express their views about the area in which they live.
Three one-day workshops were held at the Meon Court Community Flat where qualified artists worked with over 50 young people to produce graffiti-style artwork on oversize boards. Themes were based around local issues and looking to the future and the funding was provided by Broomleigh, John Laing Partnership and Rok Llewellyn.
“Due to the enthusiasm shown by the youngsters and the quality of the work, we are going to run an 8-week Street Art workshop in May where young people who attended the previous sessions will be invited back,” said Broomleigh’s Claire Fisher.
“Broomleigh’s Charitable Trust is funding this summer workshop as it provides a valuable focus for the talented youngsters in the community,” she added.
The resulting artwork will be unveiled in July and will be displayed on hoarding's around the Ramsden estate.
