Magical mural unveiled by Mayor

The Deputy Mayor of Bromley will help Broomleigh Housing Association unveil the Cotmandene Crescent mural created by children from three local schools tomorrow 24 May at 10am.

Broomleigh has been working closely with the London Borough of Bromley to improve the shops and entrances to the flats at Haverstock Court and Cotmandene Crescent as part of its regeneration project.

Steve Rock, TV presenter for CBBC, Meridian and writer of the children’s programme Cleopatra has been working with Broomleigh on a competition called ‘Creating Dreams’.

Children aged seven and eight from Midfield, Gray’s Farm, St Peter’s and St Paul’s Primary Schools were asked to take part in the competition to create the mural for Cotmandene Crescent. They have worked with Steve for one hour a week for six weeks. The children were asked to create a story and draw their characters. These illustrations were then incorporated into a mural made of tiles for the walkway at Cotmandene Crescent which is visible to pedestrians and motorists coming into the shopping area.

Grant Blowers, Community Projects Officer for Broomleigh said: “We hope the children will be proud of the area they live in through having input into its regeneration. The project aims to create a successful, safe and attractive local centre for shopping and other community needs. It is also an opportunity to celebrate the past, understand the present and think creatively about a sustainable future”.
