Motor maintenance in Mottingham

Broomleigh Housing Association has provided funding to give young people from Mottingham the opportunity to attend an 8-week motor maintenance course at the Ilderton Motor Project in Deptford.

The young people will be working towards gaining a City & Guilds Youth Achievement Award and will learn about basic motor maintenance, health and safety, and building their self-confidence and teamwork skills.

“This is an excellent chance for the young people to gain knowledge about motor mechanics. It will open up employment and further education opportunities and allows them to mix with others in a safe environment that encourages learning and increases their self confidence,” said Liz Chambers, Community Projects Officer at Broomleigh Housing Association.

The Ilderton Motor Project is a registered charity that was established in 1974. The project is aimed at young people between 13 - 25 years old to provide them with constructive activities. Motor project training programmes are designed to help get young people interested in achieving a variety of experiences and gaining qualifications.

The young people have all enjoyed taking part in the motor project:

Harry said: “I’ve enjoyed coming to this course. It’s been a laugh and it’s keeping me out of trouble.”

Jack said: “It’s a great experience. It’s really good to be working towards a City and Guilds award and meeting new people. It’s helping me work towards a career.”

Michael said: “This project is helping me work towards my mechanics course at Bromley College in September. I’m really enjoying it.”
