33rd Mini Rugby Festival Success

One of the leading events in the South of England mini rugby calendar took place on Sunday 22nd April with the 33rd Mini Rugby Festival at Westcombe Park Rugby Football Club.

The event, which was sponsored by Broomleigh Housing Association, attracted over 1,800 rugby playing children from 20 participating south east clubs.

As well as the rugby tournament, with children playing in six age groups from under 7’s to under 12’s, the festival included ‘The Broomleigh Community’ tented village.  This housed useful information such as Police Safer Neighbourhood advice, a fully crewed fire engine and a healthy eating stall.

Nicola Brown, community projects officer for Broomleigh said: “Broomleigh is delighted to be working in partnership with Westcombe Park RFC, who provide coaching for children living in our properties at St Pauls Cray and Ramsden.  This was a fantastic event to be involved with and was a good fun day for all age groups.”

Westcombe Park RFC provides rugby coaching for age groups from four years of age up to 19 and aims to help children enjoy rugby in a safe and friendly environment and to help improve their game, whatever their ability.

Simon McDowell, Head of Westcombe Park Rugby Mini Rugby added: “We have worked tremendously hard to really promote rugby in the local community, with a lot of our efforts devoted to working in areas serviced by Broomleigh.  Together with our special guests from Premiership rugby side NEC Harlequins,we were delighted that Broomleigh joined in sponsoring this prestigious event’’.
