supported housing

Broomleigh Housing Association provides a range of housing and services for vulnerable people who from time to time have difficulty managing their home. Our housing and services range from the traditional supported housing schemes through to individual help and support to tenants in their own homes.

Broomleigh employs a Supported Housing Officer to provide an intensive housing management service to three move-on properties for people with mental health problems. Each property has four self-contained flats The Supported Housing Officer works with Oxleas NHS Trust to prepare tenants for fully independent living by helping them develop a range of skills.

In addition Broomleigh works with a number of different partners to provide support to a wide range of people with different support needs. Working with Social Services at the London Borough of Bromley, we provide independent and cluster accommodation for people with Learning Disabilities. There are 13 bed spaces, across five properties in Bromley, Chislehurst, Mottingham and Orpington. We also provide two residential care homes in partnership with Bromley Social Services Learning Disability Team.

Community Options, a specialist agency supporting people with mental health problems, provides a wide range of support to people leaving residential care and moving into one of our temporary move-on schemes to enable them to make the transition from residential care to independence.

We also work with Bromley Council’s Adolescent Resource Team and provide temporary move-on accommodation. There are six properties across Bromley, Mottingham, Orpington and Penge for young people leaving care.

In Croydon we have a partnership with Oasis Trust and provide a Foyer for young vulnerable people. The Foyer is for 18 young homeless people (aged 16-25) from the Croydon area, and the project aims to develop these young people through assistance and training with life skills and skills to help them access training and employment. We also run a UK On Line centre from the Foyer and this provides a wide range of accredited course in IT for the young people at the Foyer and people in the Community wanting to improve their skills.

If you wish to be nominated for one of the schemes above, you will need to contact the partner organisation that Broomleigh works with, as each organisation has different allocation criteria.

Directly Managed Services

Broomleigh has developed a range of Floating Support Services to support vulnerable people living in our general needs properties. The help and assistance tenants receive is based upon an assessment of need and individual support plan are drawn up with the tenant. The specialist services we provide are :-

Mental Health Floating Support

This service is for Broomleigh tenants who have mental ill health. Three specialist staff based at Maple House, provide support to tenants from 1 month to two years, depending on the needs of the individual. Each member of the team has a caseload of ten tenants. The staff works closely the statutory agencies and this partnership has successfully enable many people with severe and enduring mental ill health to remain in their homes in the community.

Tenancy Sustainment

Three tenancy sustainment officers support tenants with a range of needs, including learning disabilities, people with drug/alcohol problem, family receiving Social Service input and people with a physical disabilities. The aim of this service is to offer short-term practical advice and assistance, and where appropriate work with agencies that are able to offer longer-term support. Each member of the team has a caseload of up to 20 people at once and the team is based at the Penge Local Access Point.

Older Persons' Floating Support

In response to an identified need, Broomleigh is able to offer older people support in their family home. The service aims to help older people manage their homes and improve their quality of life by providing help, advice and assistance and if they require, a move into more suitable accommodation. The team consists of three staff and is based our Orpington Local Access Point.

Support to Young Vulnerable People

We also have a specialist member of staff who provides help and assistance to younger tenants. This service has been developed in partnership with the local authority because it was identified that a high proportion of those people failing to manage their tenancies were people under 25.
